Back in the late 80's, did you own an ID bracelet? Or did you buy one for your high school boyfriend?

(Yep, I did. A gold chain-link one that I had engraved at Things Remembered. I'm sure I bought it whilst wearing copious amounts of Aqua Net in my high hair with a Swatch watch around my wrist. And Pony sneakers.)

I was totally unaware that Things Remembered was still around!

Well, they are.

How do you broach the task of making huDge decisions in your life?

Do you make a list of pros and cons? Do you talk it out with anyone who will listen? Do you stress eat? (*raising hand*)

Suzy Welch (wife of Jack) and regular columnist in Oprah's magazine, has come up with a "life-transforming idea". Her process is amazingly direct.

You simply ask yourself: What are the consequences of my decision in 10 minutes? In 10 months? And in 10 years?

(The 10s don't have to be literal though. The first 10 basically means Right Now; the second 10 should be the Foreseeable Future; and the third 10 stands for your Far Off Future. So technically, it could really be 7 days, 6 months and 2 years. Or 4 days, 3 months and 5 years. You know what I mean.)

The author states that the 10-10-10 process also aids in the identification of one's value system and set of beliefs and that "along with identifying our values, one of the great advantages of 10-10-10 is that the process often reveals to us how and why" our values may shift.

But (and this was my favorite part of the book), you don't have to wait for a 10-10-10 worthy dilemma to discover your own set of values. In the book, Welch provides her own Deep Questions for consideration:

Regarding your legacy: What would make you cry at your 70th birthday?

Regarding your character: What do you want people to say about you when you're not in the room?

And regarding your lifestyle: What do you love about the way your parents live, and what do you hate?
